FAITH
THROUGH THE EYE OF A SKATER

A multidisciplinary theatre project that explores and presents San Francisco skate culture through ensemble-based creation, video documentation, interviews, and collection of found and new text.

Building on a collaboration between multidisciplinary artists including Silvia Girardi (Director), Mike Shiono (Musician), Mike Giant (Graffiti and Tattoo Artist), Matthew Green w/LEAF (Video Artist) and key figures of San Francisco’s skating movement, “FAITH” examines the skater’s almost spiritual devotion to balance and risk, and a diverse culture that fluctuates between the mainstream and the fringes.

Skaters are all over San Francisco. Although skating culture has become a part of the mainstream, they still come like messengers of another "world", a movement and a diverse culture that, at its core, remains in the fringes of society.

This project will develop between October 2012 and May 2013 through video documentation, new script creation, workshops, art shows, community events, and will premiere throughout San Francisco's neighborhoods in May 2013. This new artistic undertaking challenges our collaborative practice beyond the known theater community, and will contribute to the evolution of potentially new performance languages. A non-linear narrative will include interviews, film, visual art, music, intersections of imaginary worlds and psychological landscapes.
